DB repair near San Francisco?

Hi, I need to take my bass to see a luthier for some fingerboard planing work. Anyone recommend a good double bass luthier in the San Francisco/ Sacramento area? I live closer to Sacramento but am willing to drive for good repair work. Thanks.

I use best instrument repair in Oakland. Greg does, great, solid work and the prices are more than fair.

That's not repair, but setup. I don't do repair, but if your fingerboard is ebony and you'll wait till after July 12 and before August 10, I could help.

Jeff's a really nice guy who has done some quality work on my double (works on the basses of all the orchestral players in the area) - if you're closer to Sac then he might be the ticket. I had my fingerboard planed and he did a nice job.

Sacramento area doublebass repair and maintenance

If you are closer to Sacramento, the clear choice is Jeff Sahs for setup work. He's my favorite setup guy in northern California. I take almost all of my basses to him for setup work.

Don't get him talking about boats, though, or you'll be there all day!

Thanks again for the recommendations. I ultimately took my bass to Alex at the Acoustic Bass Shop-- he did a fantastic job on my bass, it plays so smooth and sounds great. I'd definitely recommend him to someone else.

Alex Friedman

Alex is usually very quick with work turnaround and is a delight to work with.

Probably moot at this point, but Alex Friedman at the Acoustic Bass shop is great. I bought a Christopher from him a couple of years ago. He's worked on my basses for years. Nice dude, good work.
