When I first started gigging alot on DB, being a broke-ass musician, I needed a decent bag for cheap. I bought a new bag from the classifieds here. It was the bag that comes with Eastman basses I believe, sold under the name "Presto".
I thought it would have just gotten me by till I could afford a better one. I didn't think it would last very long. It's now been 3 years, with very hard use weekly and has not one area of wear, or any zipper issues or tears at all. It is very thickly padded, has good storage areas and a ******** of handles. It has seat-belt strapping criss-crossing all the crucial areas to reinforce them. It has two metal D-rings on each side for bunjee-cording the bass inside the car to keep it steady.
It has survived some pretty rough rockabilly club gigs, getting tossed around, beer spilt on it, stepped on, danced on, etc. It has protected my old plywood bass very well from knocks.
Plus, my cat thinks it's his personal hidey-house now. I have to vacuum it out alot.
I think Jerry Fretwell sells these Presto bags, there are a few different models. They are on the better quality end of the cheap bag market IMO.
