Ebony Fingerboard and Down Time

I have a later 1800's Czech or German bass, all the luthiers debate one another on what it is, with a peach wood fingerboard. There are some high spots on the neck right now and I was thinking of maybe just putting a new ebony fingerboard on there all together. I know there are just too many variables for anything exact but what kind of cost am I looking at and what sort of down time would there be? Of course a lot depends on my bass and the luthier and how much he is working on it but a rough guess would be nice. Anybody have any experience with changing types of woods and any pros or cons?

pearwood, not peach. The price can vary quite a bit depending on the quality and locale. 500-1500 with most in the middle. You can get top work and wood for 900-1100.

I don't know where that 80k comes from, I was thinking more the second answer- between 12 and 18 dollars an hour.
