Emergency wolf tone (??) buzzing hell relief strategy. Help.

Hello, brothers and sisters...

Outfitted with new (two lightly used, one new, and one old, which will soon be changed) strings, the bass has developed a crazy buzz-wail-howl-werewolf noise on much of the lower part of the E string. Worst on the G.

I have about 45 hours before I have to do concert and no time to get to/from a luthier before then. It's all pizz, thankfully, but the noise is still going to be a problem. We play fast, but not always that fast!

It's not a rattle or anything. It's definitely the string buzzing somehow. I tried to adjust the action upward but I am not sure I did it right. The adjuster was pretty tricky to turn (yes, I loosened the strings a ton).. I only went about half a turn. Maybe I should do more. But then again, I can hardly tell if I am turning it the right way.

Ramble ramble, pre-panic pre-panic...

Ideas?

Why not put the old strings back on if they didn't buzz? You can trouble shoot the new set after the gig.

I second the above comment.

After your show,

You may want to investigate whether there is another issue with the bass that is causing that kind of a buzz. It seems likely that there would be a crack or open seam that would cause a buzz like that instead of the strings.

The old ones were like 4 or 5 years old and sounded fricking terrible. Maybe I can boil them and squeeze out one more gig. If I absoutly must.
