Endpin Removal

I want to buy a wheel for my double bass, but I cannot remove the existing endpin. I peeked in an f-hole and saw a retaining pin (a split pin) through the top end of the endpin. I don't have the skill required to remove the endpin collar. I don't know what kind of tool I would use to reach the top of the endpin to remove the retaining pin. Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

I can try to take a photo if you need one, but it's pretty hard. On another forum, the pictures that I have taken could provide compelling evidence for the existence of sasquatch.

Nevermind! I looped a slipknot through over the top of the shaft and pushed the pin through the bottom of the bass. I fished the pin out through the f-hole. I chose the G-side f-hole, so the sound post was in the way.

Careful this is how it starts. First thing you know, you will find yourself changing your neck angle with a bumper jack.
