endpin slipping

I play standing up and lately I've had the problem of my endpin slipping into the bass (not slipping on the floor.) It won't stay up where I set it. I have a notched endpin but it seems like the notches are not wide enough to accomodate the screw. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas for widening the notches on a steel endpin?

How about filing the screw end a bit so it's more of a point? Then it should hold in the groove more? Worth a try.

Sure, just get a mill file, hold the end pin in a vise or a clamp (clamp this clamp to a table or workbench) and file a groove around the rod. If you have access to a bench grinder or edge sander you could do a similar thing with a machine, spinning the rod against the rotating tool. Of course, one would wear safety glasses for either approach; metal filings (or airborne metal dust) are no joke...
