Fitting new tailpiece wire.

My tailpiece wire has snapped.
Is fitting a new one an easy job? Do I need to take the instrument to my luthier to get fixed?
If I can do the repair myself could anyone recommend a good wire. I've seen the Wittner one with the brass ends for around £16.00.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Welcome to Talkbass LoopG!

If you could fill out your profile, it will help us to help you.

Now to answer your question: it is possible to fit a new tailpiece wire to your bass without a luthiers help, however having a luthier fit it would ensure peace of mind and perhaps catch other problems.

If the bridge is not pressing into the top, it is likely that the soundpost may have moved or fallen as well.

Cheers Peck!

The soundpost seemed to be in the same place so I had ago myself as my luthier is on holiday and a long drive away.

All seems fine so far.
