For a ply lamination, yes, you would want it to stay where it's at. One of the major problems that I have seen with carpenter glue, or other similar types, is that they expand slightly when they harden, and if it is not spread evenly, you have a nice bumpy surface to deal with.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the reply. I guess one of the other advantages of hide glue is that you can control the consistancy of the glue to taylor it to whatever type of repair you're doing.
