Question Hanging Packs Of Silica Gel On My Bass?

I don't quite know if its appropriate or even safe to do so. Heres the background info, I don't have enough funds to buy a huge air tight dry box or a dehumidifier. I live in the tropics so humidity is crazy, rarely goes below 90%, on good days maybe just above 80. So I was thinking of hanging packs of silica gel at different areas of the bass while storing it in my soft case, i.e. f holes, bridge, neck, scroll. Initially I thought it'd only be possible in an air tight case, but a fellow bassist was telling me it might just work. Here my concerns though, will it ever become to dry at the areas where I'm going to hang them, i.e. uneven absorption, and cause my entire plan to backfire with my bass being too dry at those areas? Any thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Kenneth

Cool

I really don't think it's necessary. I also live in the tropics and I've never had any problems with the humidity issues with regards to my German flatback solid body. There were even times that I have to leave it in my room for 6 months to go abroad. I just wipe off the molds when I get back. She's also being kept in a decent enough soft case. No cracks or any damage has ever happened so far.

Just keep your bass in a safe place and in a nice case.

really the biggest problems are changing humidity, so if its constant and your bass is already acclimated than it shouldn't be a problem.

Oh alright, so as long as the humidity stays high, nothing drastic is gonna happen. Thanks guys, that solves a lot of problems already, but I think its best that I keep in a relatively dry room when it rains.

My bass (plywood) and I are in China, where it rains almost everyday in the summertime, and hot and muggy too. No big problems to speak of so far, other than after a few weeks of the humidity the bass started to feel a bit tight. Just lowered my bridge adjusters, now all is well.
