Help with neck crack

I picked up this roth for my son from a pawnshop. I am not sure exactly what I have due to the label being blacked out. There appears to be a couple neck cracks with some small holes. not sure if someone tried to screw or dowel these. This is just a starter bass for him and I dont want to get too deep in it. Do you think I would be OK with a simple glue and clamp here? Any advice or info would be much appreciated!

It looks like the fingerboard is separated from the neck and I'd have to see it in person to know what's going on in the maple part..

I'd suggest having a luthier look at it. Estimates are free..

Gluing the fingerboard back on requires hot hide glue. You'd end up spending more on a glue pot, clamps, hide granules, etc. than you would just getting a luthier to do it..

Can you fill out more of your profile so we know where you live? Someone will then be able to point you in the right direction..

Nice looking starter bass, sure you can get it sorted.
I was wondering why anyone would bother obscuring half the label?

It doesn't look too bad. I hope there aren't nails in there! Definately take it to a luthier though.

The fingerboard should be removed to repair the neck properly (it may need reinforcement).

What is the string hight, off of the fingerboard? It looks like the neck may be flexing.

+ 1 on taking it to a luthier.

The only reason I can see for someone to black out a label is if it was stolen. Trying to cover up a serial number maybe? I don't know.

My guess is they blacked out the half of the label that identifies where it was made. Judging from the finish, I'm thinking China. I've heard of lots of German Roth basses, but they're older looking and seem to always have a first name attached (Heinrich, etc...).

There does seem to be something metallic inserted where the little holes are in the neck. Good luck with it!

This link should help in finding a qualified luthier near you.

Thanks fellas, for the info - I am in Denver and dropped the bass off to the super-talented Robert Ross - and after looking at it, he thinks he can get it fixed with a simple glue job.. whew.. The feedback Ive gotten is its just a simple carved top/lam "Roth adjusted" bass - whatever that means -
I got it for a great price at the pawn shop ($150!) so, I am real happy to get a starter bass going for my son - hopefully, he puts his heart into it enough to warrant stepping up soon - He has gotten very far on the electric bass. I play B3/keys myself, so, you can imagine how stoked I am for him to get good!

Thanks again!
