That looks like a long string length you have there, too. Have you measured it? Looks like at least 43" from here.

Hey
Im not sure i know what you mean, do you mean the lenght from nut to bridge?
Because the photos of DB in full size is sent to me by the former owner, before i laid my hands on it. I have done this so far:
1# I pulled the old FB off real easy i was lucky

2# cleaned up and reshaped the neck, so its flat without curve pretty hard

3# rounded off the FB with a blockplane its delightfull work..but can go very wrong. i was very carefull

and just now im trimming down the sides of the FB so it fits the neck. job done, fits perfectly.
I look soo much forward to dressing this FB once its on very thick ebony stick. All i need now is to glue it.

Thank you all for good advise

im now finished with the FB:
this is getting hide glue just a little too hot(should be 145 farenheit)..
here is the FB fitted and glued.
this is a new nut i made, the old one was too low. i made it with a block of grenadil wood, which original purpose was to be a joint for a clarinet
yes i butchered it..will fix though

I'd say 50ies, because the bass has wooden pegs.
