How thick is yours?

Hi Sirs!!

I am on the purpose of upgrading my ¾ bass. In terms of playability, next step will be asking my luthier to make some adjustments in the neck. Therefore, and supposing my hands to be common sized, I would like to hear your opinion regarding these matters:

1) When do you consider a neck too thick?
2) Which are your diameter preferences?
3) Talking about its width, which string distance do you choose for the nut?

Thanks a lot for your comments!!

Gracias.

For me, a neck is too thick when it's uncomfortable. I don't have a specific diameter preference and I don't think that measurement captures what's important. The neck profile is important (e.g., how "pointed" the shape is) as well as the width of the neck. What do you find to be a problem with your neck as it is? Are you a long-time player? Keep in mind that, for many, a thinner neck profile may seem to be comfortable at the outset but can cause left-hand fatigue as a result of it being more difficult to maintain the left-hand "claw" and finger spacing. My advice is to forget specific measurements and work with your luthier to adjust the bass to your hands.
