Kay bass soundpost crack

This bass is for sale in my town. I think I can get it for cheap, but the soundpost has pushed through and the action is too low apparently...checking it out in person tomorrow but what do you guys think by looking at the photos.

I'd pass and find a bass in better shape. You'll be throwing some serious $$$ at that crack, I think. Someone really hacked up that finish, too.

I think you should get an estimate from an experienced bass luthier for the repairs needed before you make an offer. The top is in trouble and the bridge is bad too - what about the fingerboard and the neck joint?

A bass like this has many uses. Personally, I would

1) Get out the sabre saw
2) Carefully cut out the top 2 1/2" from the sides.
3) Install tubular foam insulation on the top edges to keep from scratching your back
4) remove the tuners
5) Install a small electric boat motor to the end of the neck
6) Go bass fishing at your favorite lake

There are simply too many good inexpensive choices out there to throw good money away on a cheap old plywood bass that is past being a goner. Keep on hunting and good luck!

Checked the bass out. Never seen a bass with such bad warped condition. Pass!

A crack like that in plywood can't be repaired. Once the plys are split you can't fix it.
