| Kay neck joints work perfectly for factory assembly by semi-skilled workers. As a time and labor saver, they are great. As a long-term stable neck joint, they are usually a failure. You will rarely encounter a Kay bass that has not had (or currently needs) work on the neck joint. One of the worst problems is the simplest: there is often a space left underneath the bottom of the neck. The pressure of the strings will often close the gap, causing the back of the neck to dislocate from the back button. Also, the wedge shape of the hard maple neck dovetail wreaks havoc on the softer wood of the body's neck block. |
