That, my friend, is why I included the words"at least no more than the original endpin hole does." I don't mind a bit that you call it damage; I'm going to keep playing my bass with the "damaged" endblock and save my trips to the luthier for that which I consider damage.

Damage is a very specific word--it isn't "damage" if it results in a beneficial improvement, even if it involves a structural change. Adding a bathroom to your house isn't "damage" even if you have to rip a hole in the wall to do it. It's only damage if you don't like the work

Another Option

Last time I checked, George Vance at the Slava Publishing site was selling angled endpins for something like $14.95 for 10mm setups. These are metal endpins. This could be a better way to test drive using an angled endpin.

That's what I did--I got an angled steel endpin from Vance, and that convinced me i liked the idea enough to buy an eggpin

Works like a dream and is very very well priced.

That's quite an endorsement. The problem is: we're talking about an angled endpin that happens to be made of CF. The major point (at least for me) is the change in the way I address the bass brought about by the angled pin. No regular endpin, no matter the materials, will help me achieve that.

The best bass I've ever played was a Laborie Quenoil copy, but they are about $25,000, which is way out of my price range. Let me know what you think of any of these, or anything else... I don't want a small sounding bass since I'm going for the sloped shoulders....is it possible to have a big sound for both orchestral and jazz, yet have the sloped shoulders ala Rabbath's Quenoil bass?
Wondered a couple of things - did you ever find any answers to these questions? And 2 Has anyone tried a Q bass? Comments?
