Liquid Hide Glue

I'm wondering if any of the resident repairpersons have any experience with this stuff. Not as a glue, I know how to use real glue.

I'm re-repairing a broken heel and the glue smells like hide but has gone white and filmy in the crevices. Its very hard to remove so its not white glue which usually comes off well with hot water and a toothbrush. I tried vinegar and water, but it didn't help.

I'm looking for a way to remove this stuff so that I don't have to re-glue the heel with the 'E' word and earn Jeff's lifelong disapproval, but the way things sit, its way too contaminated for hide and maybe even for the 'T' word.

Help me out here guys, would you?

Thanks a lot, Jake
