There is a guy named Dave Hurt in the Winchester/Leesburg area. I met him once at a gig (plays bass) and I've seen the work he's done on a couple of basses (cracks and loose neck). The work was excellent. Beyond that, I don't know.

jim warwick in vienna va. he primarily works on guitars and bass guitars but he set up a cheap upright bass for me and fixed some neck cracks on it too. he does great work, he is also a hell of a nice guy and his prices are very good.

Brobst violin shop- Alexandria.

Very good luthiers, not exactly bass "specialists" but will do great work.

I recently had a conversation with Thomas Wolf of The Plains VA. about my Capos. He said he mainly makes harpsichords, but is moving more into basses, and does some dealing at the high end. He sounded very nice and very professional. I'd give him a try:

Jim Warwick in Vienna is a great guy, meticulous, and skilled, but he's almost all guitars.

David Mansbridge in Annapolis does basses and only basses. He's an interesting guy and extremely experienced. There's Brobst in Alexandria, Potter's in Bethesda, Rumano Solano in Baltimore. I'm thinking of doing the long drive to Shank's strings in PA next time my bass needs work
