I must say that I never got to use one of those... BUT, my grandma had a rotary phone out on the farm where the dial was weighted and metal, and if you dialed a "0" or a "9" too quickly, you were likely to risk amputating the tip of your index finger when it hit the stopper. Yup, those were the days, alright....

Man, I love my rotary dial shop phone! Its got a bell I can hear no matter what I'm doing and it works when the power is out.
