moving bridge

I just put gut strings on my bass yesterday and I'm having a problem with the bridge feet sliding around. The top isn't super shiney (it's a newer Shen SB100) and it's actually got a bit of grain so it's not totally smooth.

How do I keep the feet of the bridge from twisting and sliding?

They shouldn't slide if properly fit. Use your finely tuned eyeballs and/or a sheet of paper to check the fit. IF the bridge still slides (not likely) I suppose you could rub a little rosin on the bottom of the feet. YMMV, YLMA (your luthier may argue) etc.....

Well, if I get the feet exactly where the luthier placed them when I bought the bass last summer, then the feet fit perfectly. You couldn't slide a hair under them. But the bridge moves so easily. I can't recall my bridge on my old Kay doing that, so I didn't know if it was normal. It actually looks like the luthier did put something under the bridge feet cause it's kind of dull and tacky looking. Rosin, you say?

Possibly. Why don't you take the bass back to your luthier to be sure.
