must open 1952 kay-what else to consider

the backing board has come unglued so i am having my 1952 kay repaired. while i have it opened is there anything i shuld consider having done to improve sound or quality of bass?

As long as you are re-gluing the backing board you should have a look at the fronting board as well.

good point. have heard that having the top sanded on the inside improves sound. but am afraid to do it

Regraduating a top

Ray,

While regraduating an overly thick solid spruce top can help the sound on many overbuilt student level basses, sanding or planing the inside of a plywood top on an old Kay bass would be a major disaster! Go have your bass worked on by a luthier who really knows what he is doing. Good Luck!

Bass bar recontouring on Kays?

Has anyone done much in the way of lightening up the dimensions on the bass bar to more oomph out of their Kay bass(es)?
