Off Center Strings Or Bridge? Newbe

Just bought my first upright today. I believe the strings are a little off center. I was wondering if I could just loosen the strings and scoot the bridge over a little without too much trouble? I am going to take it to a Luthier in a couple of weeks, just wanted to know. Information appreciated. Thanks

Yes, your bridge must have moved during shipping. I prefer the Karate chop method, most Luthiers use a rubber hammer. Just make sure it is still lined up with the F Holes and pray your sound post doesn't fall!

You might want to loosen your strings a bit. Stand behind the bass as if you were playing it. Reach down and with left hand on G side and right on E side, move the bridge over. When everything is right, the bridge should be approximately between the ff's and the back (tailpiece side) 90 degrees from the top. It will want to pull toward the fingerboard when you tune it up. If it does, just gently move it back down.
