Im using dark brown oil varnish from International Violin to refinish my bass. After 5 coats, the bass has only begun to turn golden blonde. This is my first time refinishing any kind of wood so I wonder if this is normal? Am I not getting proper coverage becuase of my application method? I have just been rubbing the oil on with a rag. Do I need to buy an expensive animal hair brush? Thanks.
