Playing both doublebass and electric - what setup?

Hello! I am primarily an electric bass player, but have also played the doublebass off and on. All the doublebasses I have played have been school instruments or borrowed so setup was never though about.

I'm now finally getting ready for my first DB purchase. I'd like to know from those who also play electric, what setup have you found best on the DB? I play DB mainly with a community band and for musicals, and I'm going to be trying to learn jazz style. And I guess I'm also asking what strings might be best.

FYI, looking at Gollihur's new classic.

Welcome to a strange and wonderful world. It might be helpful to flesh out your profile a bit, with your existing amp gear, as it might be that something you've already got will do the job.

I jump between an EBG and an EUB...I use the set up below with the exception of that antique chorus...it's been replaced by something a bit newer.

A/B for the basses, tuner mute on the loooper, and the K & K works awesome on the EUB. From this into a Genz-Benz 600 and Neox212.

I realize a DB is a different critter from my WAV, but I think the application should work the same.

Setup on a double bass is to make the *instrument* sound the best, not to make it work for the player. I mean, that's part of it, but you emphasize the attributes of your instrument rather than simply making it easy to play.

Unless you mean something else when you're asking about how people set up their instruments. I had mine set up by my luthier, and made some notes for when I bone it up. I have my strings at a "medium" height.
