Positioning bridge and soundpost

I just bought a DB so I'm coming up to speed. Understand the bridge is supposed to be centered between the f-holes in the middle of the bass. Where is the sound post supposed to go in relation to the bridge? I heard the sound post should be under the foot of the bridge. I also heard it should be an inch below toward the tail piece. Any advice? Thanks.

Soundpost should be about an inch away from the G foot of the bridge (an inch closer to the tailpiece). Just as you have been told...
