| repair advice- neck replacement I have a 1940's Czech bass that needs some repair:
1. The glue has failed at the neck joint and the only thing holding it in place is the fact that it is dovetailed into the block.
2. There is a scroll crack above the A string tuner, partially hidden by the plate. The scroll has already been grafted onto a replacement neck at some point.
3. the neck wood itself, according to the luthier who replaced the FB in 1990 is "really floppy", but it is supported by a thick, beautiful ebony board.
* I am also interested in shortening the string length to accomodate my smaller hands & I would rather have it set up with a "D" neck, rather than the existing Eb
I'm sure this is a labor-intensive modification, but for a <$7000 instrument, would I be better off keeping the neck and fixing the urgent stuff? thanks!
