Repairing "Carpet damage"

Hi,

Long time talkbass member first time Double Bass Set up and Repair poster...

I don't really know much about wood and stuff. I have an 60's Kay bass. I had it set up by some professional guys in Cincinnati at the Bass Cellar. Ohio guys have probably heard of them... they're the ****.

Anyway, he gave me some varnish stuff to put on the sides of my bass because it had been used at a middle school and had plenty of carpet damage.

However, I put it off because I live in college dorms and haven't had room to even do this sort of thing, but now I'm at home for Winter break. Most of my varnish evaporated or something

What kind of product would you guys recommend or does it even matter that much?

Sorry. Edges. That makes more sense.

I already did it. I bought some varnish that said it was transparent and was for knicks on furniture and I figured it worked. Seems to.
