Reposted from the Basses Frorun- 1/2 Roth project bass

BIIIIIIIIIG Question here!

I found a project bass for sale for pretty cheap but have no idea how much more I will have to drop to make it a playable bass!

This what I'd be buying...

Roth carved top upright bass with new neck roughed in. Bass has a sound post, end pin, tuners, roughed out rosewood fingerboard and tail piece. I can throw in a set of used strings and an old canvas bag. You will need to shape the neck and fingerboard. Scale for the bass is about 38 or 39"'s

I'd be bringing this into a repair shop in MN and pay them to make it a playable bass!

What do you think it's cost me ...roughly

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Unless you are a child you don't really want a 1/2 bass. That is probably why it would be cheap.

Does the repair shop have an hourly rate? If so, multiply the hourly rate by the number of estimated hours it will take to complete the job.

You said it was a BIIIIIIIG question

How can anyone even give you an estimate without seeing the bass? What does "new neck roughed in" mean? How rough? Is the FB attached? Fit and shoot fingerboard coupla hundred at least. Maybe a coupla coupla hundred. It has a soundpost - GREAT NEWS, but is it in position? is it in the right position? Does it have a bass bar? Still attached? What about a bridge ... you might need a bridge, yeah? A new bridge fitted is a coupla hundred at least. Secondhand strings? What condition? Will they work on that scale length? New strings coupla hundred.

Could be a "put it all together and play" situation or it could be a "complete makeover necessary"!

Fair crack-o-the-whip mate, you need to find out more about the bass.
