| Ronald Sachs Violins, Luthier in Atlanta / Southeast Just wanted to post this in case anybody is looking for a repair guy in the south east. (I was previously unfamiliar with Ronald Sachs Violins.)
Had a crack in my table. They removed it, cleated it, replaced top. Got a new fingerboard put on, 2 new nuts cut, one extended (to shorten string length), one original-length, cut a new bridge.
My bass is a relatively modern Italian. Most of the work done on it while I've owned it was by NYC guys.
I was apprehensive, but had no choice to try someone new. They did an absolutely fantastic job. Mike Brenneger (who I believe worked at Robersons?) did the work, and I couldn't have been more pleased.
The stock-cut fingerboard they put on had an E-string bevel, and they took it completely out. (Does anybody know what those bevels are for??) It feels very clean to play on, now.
The new bridge they cut actually got rid of a bad wolf on A-natural. I was amazed. The bass is very solid, and has a thick top. The bridge they cut was quite a bit thicker and denser than the previous. After the top was put back on, I was able to play, using the old bridge, and the wolf was still there. So it was the new bridge that removed it, I'm fairly convinced.
Since the repair, the instrument is noticeably louder and more responsive.
Anyway, a really great repair job.
