Have any of you done this ? Arnold, Jeff ? I am curious how it is done.

I hope you don't mind me answering your question, but Scroll/Neck grafts are something that most trained and experienced bass luthiers do perform when it is required. IMO, a good neck graft separates the men from the boys when it comes to being a luthier. Bill Merchant has photos and description showing the the basics on his website. There are variations, but that should show you what you asked about.
