There are a lot of those hot glue neck joints coming from China. They can be a lot of work to re-build but the basses always sound twice as good afterwards...

Both of those images are tragic. It's a shame to see such a noble instrument crafted and treated in this fashion.

PLEASE tell me you're joking.. I have this joint soaking in De-Glue-Goo all night. I'm really want to bag it up and tell the customer my normal disclaimer spill for not working on junk..

"This instrument is constructed with materials and methods that I'm unfamiliar with, thus I'm not qualified to work on it."

It's too bad I already decapitated it..

I think this thread (or at least the pic) needs to be pinned at the top of every DB forum warning against buying $<800 basses. Or better yet, put the words on it with some skull & crossbones saying "This is what $500 buys you."

Good idea! Maybe a one-post sticky with that title.

Those pics are going up on my wall, with this one.

I have the top off a CCB right now. The bass bar was a slab-cut piece of rubbish and bent like a banana. Thankfully there's not too much edge ply damage, and I'm not looking at the neck joint at all. But I weighed the top last night ... 2500 grams!!! That's a kilo heaver than any of the other tops I've seen!

finished product

Much better! This pic is prior to dry-fitting the neck.
I used "orange box" cedar for the shim. I'm not using my good spruce on this project. Besides, the bass has a nice aroma now.

Here's the finished product after applying touchup varnish using an airbrush. I revarnished the entire heel. The color's a little off, but who caaaaares..

That looks good and I bet it sounds way better too! Nothing like wood to wood contact to transmit vibrations.
