Slipping hat peg

One of my hat pegs is slipping. The gear+worm are much looser than the other hat pegs (it happens to be the D string one in my case). Whenever I bow the A string heavily, I can see the gear turning due to the vibration. The open A happens to be exactly my A0 frequency

Aside from some thoughts I had about bending the tabs that hold the worm in place a bit to make them tighter, is there anything else that would recommended?

And no, I'm not going to rub smegma on my gear nor the worm

My temporary solution was to squeeze a piece of thread/string around the peg shaft, between the gear and the bracket that holds it in place. I also placed a thread between the teeth of the gear and the worm, turning it in.

That made things tighter, and the key no longer turns due to the vibrations of the whole instrument. But I know this is a temporary solution. Maybe when enough grime builds up again, things will get tighter.

you get what you pay for...
the worm is the brake, ordinarily the string pull cannot overcome the reduction in the final drive.
you will have to tighten the fit at the shaft blocks on worm shaft.

You speakin' to me? I'm the only one who paid anything for these. That was only a small shipping fee.

Thanks, that was my question - I guess I should review my physics books I was wondering where the most effective brake was, now I know.

I'm not by any means complaining - those pegs are super cool, cost me nothing, and Paul took care of things!

I just look at it as something to be expected of older pegs and it's nothing that can't be repaired. One of my joys is taking stuff that hasn't worked in a while and making it work

My bad. Sorry.
That was good...like a two edged sword.
May I add in apology? "Well, duh".
