Small Split, How do I keep it from getting bigger?

http://img218.imageshack.us/my.php?i...plit003uo0.jpg

Sorry for the bad photo, I couldn't manage to get a picture with enough light to show the split without the bass reflecting the flash. I realize that its pretty minute but I'm concerned about it getting bigger. Especially because the bass is brand new.

Are you sure it's not just in the finish? It goes past the purfling through the edge but doesn't seem to go through it.

Sorry my upright bass anatomy is not so hot what is the purfing? It doesn't go all the way through the wood but I don't want it to get to the point were it is. When I rub my finger across it I can feel the uneven edges of the split.

Purfling is the inlaid strip(s) of wood that follow the outline of the top and the back.

Maybe a luthier will chime in here, but if you are concerned about it, take it to a good bass repair person to advise you.

your luthier may be able to just work some glue into the crack. if thats the only issue (with the condition of your bass) i dont think that it warrants top removal as there is no where for the crack to go. make sure the seams around the area are closed, and dont pick it up by the f hole. good luck
