Some basic repairs the non-lutheir can learn to do?

I have three basses right now, one of which is a cheap plywood that doesn't get played much.

So I was thinking about learning how to do some basic repairs or adjustments myself on the cheap bass. It definitely needs a new bridge, and a soundpost adjustment at the least. Maybe a new post altogether.

Is it a matter of just reading chuck traeger's book a few times to get started?

Everyone starts out as a non-luthier. Chuck's book is a great start, so is a lot of the information you can find buried here. Be patient, work within your limits, and when in doubt, ask for help.
