soundpost & endpin help

Those in the know...should my sound post be directly under my g string side bridge foot or slightly south (where it is)?

Other than the obvious, a standing point, what is the roll of the endpin and dose replaceing it do anything great?

Rich

I am not in the know, just a fellow bassist/traveler. I do know that searching the threads here will answer those specific queries.

End pins?

In the bigger picture, for about $70, one can buy Chuck Traeger's book, which answers these questions and more:

Sort of like an owner's manual for the DB, IMHO.

Couldn't agree more.

Yes, your soundpost is in (approximately) the right place...but the actual adjustment is quite touchy, and demands some experimentation and experience as well.

I found the Traeger book to be a big help, at least getting started. Perhaps one of these days someone will write THE definitive book on bass set-up, and we will all be blessed. But for now, that is a very good place to begin.

And, as Eric pointed out, if it is answers you are looking for, you have already hit the "mother-lode".
