Staining a Tailpiece?

My Engelhardt Jatoba tailpiece just came in. It looks pretty nice. I went ahead and added a coat of boiled linseed oil hopin' it would darkin' it up so it would match my fingerboard.

I don't think the linseed oil is gonna do it. It made it just slightly darker. But I don't think even adding more coats it will come close.

So I was wonderin' what should I do now to add a stain? Will I need to try and re sand it to stain? Walmart has a minwax stain that looks like it will probably work.

I'm not too smart on doin' finishes so just wonderin' for some advice or tips here.

Thanks,
Steve

The linseed oil will darken over time. Give it about a year
