String Elevation

Tidings, I have been playing electric bass four years. Now I have a slightly used Engelhardt Double bass which I am trying my hand at. Not using the Bow, but just plucking...what would be the proper elevation heighth of my double bass strings? ...say measuring them at the very lower end of the fret board above the bridge.

It seems to me that my strings need to be lowered?

Thanks

I have my string height between 9mm to 11mm which some would consider high, but its all relative to style of music you play as well as personal preference. I'm not the most knowledgable at this, so I suggest you go to the Set Up and Repair section here and do a thread search on "string height" you'll see a lot of posting, and probably by people who know better than me.

Good luck.
