41.5" and an Eb neck for me. probably because that's what my first bass had. i bought an EUB and had it made to these specs too, and i bought a giant bass and had a false nut put in to make it 41.5 and had some wood taken off the heel to make it Eb. a few years later i bought a 40.5" bass thinking that it would be easier to play and i cant play it in tune to save my life. too bad because it's a nice bass and sounds good. the main thing stopping me from trying/buying and upton bass is the 42" string length. i know they'll shorten it if i ask, but then there goes the good price.

my Tarr copy has 40 inches with a D neck, I love that setup so much that I don't think I will ever go back to a longer string length. That's after having had several basses ranging from 45 inches to more standard 42s.

BTW, plenty of bottom on that bass, and it has no tolerance for loose strings.

What monster did you have with a 45" String Length?

I used to call it "Goliath", it was a no-name German of the turn of last century. Nice instrument.

I was young and stupid, I thought I could manage the string length but eventually I had to sell.
