Strings not ringing equally

I have an NS WAV4, and just put on a brand new set of Helicore Hybrids. The G and D sound about right, but the A string sounds very muted, and the E string sounds not muted enough...if that makes sense. It sounds more like a bass guitar string than an upright bass. They are all the same type of string and all the same age, I'm wondering what might be causing such drastic tonal differences between them. It's like I have 3 different bass sounds on one instrument...and I don't like it.
