Its not frustrating, you just have to have a little patience. Its easier to lengthen the tailpiece wire, so start with the after-lengths too flat ie longer than 1/6 of your string length.
Let things stretch and settle for a couple of days and then get after the tuning. I definitely find it easier with my little adjustable cable clamps.
