Tuner issue -- squeaky and tight

My Epiphone has recently developed an issue with the G string tuning machine. It's become extremely tight and difficult to turn, and makes an awful squeaking, tweety sound when you do manage to actually move it.

I first noticed it after removing the G to install a Realist a while ago.

Could it be bent? Does it just need a lube job?

The strings are wound around the pegs properly and there doesn't appear to be any rubbing going on.

Arnold, maybe you have an idea. I know you saw it and commented on it but we both had other concerns at the time.

Sounds like lubrication would be a good first measure. I used bicycle bearing grease on my tuners but others favor graphite based lubricants. The bicycle bearing grease is still doing the job for me after two years. If you can disassemble the tuner and get to all the surfaces that contact, this is the best way.

I use a bicycle chain lube called White Lighting. It's a teflon based dry lube. It goes on wet but drys and continues to keep the machines moving smoothly and doesn't collect dust and dirt like a grease or wet lube.
