Tuning gear/worm orientation

Layman's terms here, so forgive me:

In most cases, when looking at the scroll, I see the tuner shafts/worms in front of the gears, ie. the shaft is closer to the nut than the gear [insert dirty joke here].

Occasionally this is reversed, but usually not. Due to my unique setup, and to make things fit, I installed my given hatpeg tuners (thanks Paul) with the shafts behind the gears.

Is this considered a no-no for any reason and should I try to re-orient them?

George

I knew I had that coming

I meant anything else beside that handicap. Actually to me it's an intuitive direction while tuning.

your bass is your bass...one-off and works for you.
maybe when you go for that fourth string you can bring it closer to conformity.
*or you could wrap the strings under the peg shaft,(not recomended)
*move to the otherside of the equator

Does this mean that I gotta go searching for another hat-peg for George?

What am I, the free-hat-peg-pimp around here?

Well, as long as my toilet flushes in the same direction, I'm good.

I may not be going for a forth string after all. If I do, I will probably build a new bass around that string. I love the 3 guts.

No no, I'm good, thanks. You already did a big favor for me. I got something brewing (in my mind) in terms of making a copy of one of those machines. I've heard of people building their own basses, but not many of making their own machines... just some random thoughts at the moment.
