Yup, I tried it for a while. Not sure if it made any difference to the tone or volume, but boy did my bass go flat.

This stuff is supposed not to stretch, but I kept it on there at least three months and my bass just kept going out of tune. I was a bit paranoid about my knot, but that was secure and not budging (checking the ends regularly to make sure no slippage). I replaced it with braided steel cable - no retuning from day one.

The cord is strong enough, but against the theory that is is supposed not to have any stretch, I found it did.

n=1 trial

It would be interesting to see what others have found. Presumably if they are still selling it then it must be working ok??

Oh, and you can buy it a lot cheaper elsewhere (it is called dyneema, or spectra, and is used for the rigging in yachts).

Have it on both my basses, when it was first installed the bottom of my tail piece was lower than the bottom edge and looked weird, they told me that it will stretch, it did and no it where it supposed to be. I hated the wires don't trust guts and you could pull a car with the velvet cord. My basses never go out of tune because of the cord, only because of temperature, humidity. I think it opened the sound up and note rings longer even louder, some say that metal tailgut is like a small pillow in the bell of an alto sax, also some argues that there is no difference. Hard to tell.
