You can buy Vectran from any sailing supply place. I think the 3/16" stuff has a tensile strength of 1800 lbs. A piece long enough to do a tailpiece costs less than a dollar. My assistant Jed braids it in such a way that no knotting is needed. It's like a Chinese finger torture gadget.

Think that that stuff is close to the Velvet material? BTW I'm not surprized Jed knows how to braid.

I know, way off topic, BUT, inside my bass is a "repair pencil mark" - inside my bass, on the back, it "says";

A W Crosby 1944
Lorain Ohio

Has anyone heard of, or do you remember anything about this
repairman/luthier? (Near Cleveland)

My fabulous bass has no label and I'm trying to organize information regarding it's origin.

Al...go to the Basses forum topic and post some pictures of your bass. We have a great time helping people figure out what they might have.
