Warped fingerboard. Should I fix?

Hello all,

I have a Cremona 3/4 upright bass. The fingerboard seems warped/bowed. When looking down the fingerboard, using the string as a judge, you can see that the fingerboard has a slight curvature or warp. It dips in the middle then curves back up as it goes to the bottom of the neck.

It really looks an awful lot like the relief one might see in an electric bass neck (though without the luxury of a truss rod).

It is a relatively cheap instrument (around $1000.00), and I'm not sure how to repair it, or if it would be worth fixing.

My questions are a) Is this remotely normal? b) Is it worth fixing? and c) Where is a good place to buy bass fingerboards?

Thanks

A: yes, for the same reason you have relief on your EBass neck. B: it might need redressing. C: you may not need a new fingerboard; an experienced luthier can advise you. This is not a DIY job.

Double bass fingerboards are dressed with scoop to varying degrees. This is normal. Players prefer more or less scoop depending upon their playing style and the feel of the instrument.

If you don't have buzzes and the stop pressure is reasonable, there's nothing wrong; to a first approximation, the shape you're describing is normal, and in fact a dead straight fingerboard would be awful.
