What has been done to my sound post?

There's a circular piece of wood under my soundpost. Could someone tell me what it's for and should I take it to a Luthier?

It's called a soundpost patch. It is there to reinforce the the wood where the post meets the back.

It may have always been there. It may have been added later. In any case, leave it.
