So I'm looking through the catalog of a company with the initials MF and come across a re-creation of Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Lenny" Stratocaster. I look at the price and it says.........$17,000. I did a double take......$17,000 are you kidding me. So the question is.......do you know someone with this guitar or would you buy it for yourself.

Someone actually just bought one on Harmony Central, I could never pay that for a guitar personally but if it makes someone / a collector happy fair play to 'em

There's a SRV Fender Replica at one of my local stores and it either $14,000 or $17,000, and they also have a EVH Frankenstein Replica for $25,000!

That's chump change to what an instrument could cost.
Not to mention classical string instruments.

But I get your point.

I could see if it was a Stratavarious but this is a re-creation guitar.

not a fair comparison; making a violin or cello takes so much more skill and time than an electric solid body. ANYONE on this forum, with a little patience and some research, can build themselves a respectable bass in one try. good luck building a violin...

String instruments have rarity value. If you have a several hundred year old instrument, the wood is from a particular part of the world in a particular part of history which gives the wood just the right sonic characteristics, all the wood cut to just the right shapes, then you have a 1 of a kind instrument. If its destroyed you cant make another one that has the same sound. That makes the price astronomical in some cases.

Luthiers create remakes of famous string instruments all the time, measured down to the fraction of a millimetre, and never have I heard of one recreating the sound. Close maybe, but never a copy.
