Invest, save, etc. Get a 3 month CD (certificate of deposit)

You'll waste that money if you're just itching to spend it.

I wish I did the same when I was your age.

If you don't need anything, and the money isn't earmarked for anything, then you won't miss it if you save it away.

I agree(for the most part, lol). But I have trouble saving cash too. If you really must spend it, and want a bass, there are many, many good and/or cool basses that you can buy for that(especially used), such as Rogues 8 string Custom(looks like a vintage 8'er). But if you want to improve the sound of what you've got, id recommend some effects. I like to use lots of them myself. Korg makes some processors with about 80 effects(40 preset mixes, 40 effects - you can mix effects and then save the setting), for about $40 to $50 at guitar center, and a Dunlop Crybaby bass wah never hurt anyone!

+1 on the Vintage Modified. I bought one to take to a jam night that we host, sounds and plays great.

This is America; saving money is for chumps.

Spend it on some electronic stuff that you don't need. Make sure it makes noise and has lots of lights on it.

You can spend it and have a lot of semi-cheap ok gear...

Or you can save it and have a little bit of niceeee gear.

I chose the latter.

That'll get him, what? An extra fifteen bucks at best, if I'm not mistaken? (I very well could be).

Not even... I don't know of any places that get 5.5 points on a multiple year CD. I don't know anywhere that does 3 month CDs, and if they did I'm sure the OP would see a single digit profit... CDs are nice but don't do much for small amounts. But guaranteed profit is guaranteed profit... All about risk and return.

Still, better than him spending it on something he doesn't really need or want.

The point wasn't about profit. The point was to ensure he couldn't spend it on an impulse buy in the next three months.

I lost way too much money on impulse buys because I had money "burning a hole in my pocket"

A few things you can spend your money on:

- lessons
- a small active monitor
- lots of cables
- microphones - (for vocals, amps, instruments, studio)
- several good DI boxes
- bass stands and microphone stands
- really good earphones
- some nice bass effects
- Several packs of strings
- a good tuner like the boss TU-2, if you don't have one already
- Supporting membership on TB (I haven't payed because I'm not sure how easy/expensive it is to pay overseas...)

Bolded the things I would buy first. Always good to have.
