I used to gig in the 70's, but left it to go to College, make a career, family, etc. Finally got to the point where I have time to play, but not enough to commit to weekends, etc. Play nightly, take weekly lessons, and learning a lot. I am finding a great deal of satisfaction in personal progress and insight without putting up with the emotional trauma of a band (see most threads under band management). If the right situation comes up, I am happy to play with others, but it is not a priority right now. The computer is a wonderful practice tool- it never argues and agrees with whatever you feel like playing next!

I've been sitting here the past couple of months learning Primus tunes for no other reason than it's fun as hell to play and when i do get to jam with some people I could bust those out and turn some heads. Then it will be back to the computer room here waiting for the next chance to go out. I know some guys that have the space and the equipment and everything but they're some of the most un-motivated slackers I've ever had the displeasure of meeting.

I hear you my goal is to know every Beatles tune front to back it's kind of cool when I go to Guitar Center and break out Day Tripper and people ask me what band I'm in.

If by big dog you mean playing in some bar or other equivalent on the weekends and dealing with the drama of a band then I'll pass and I will put my chops up against the majority of the people on this forum and you are not a "Big Dog" if you play in some local band the rest of world knows or cares nothing about so continue to play for drunks and dream of being a rock star.

Stepping out from the DOOM room for this one, because it seems to fit me...although I do have a band, when I am alone, I use playing my bass as a meditative tool and play to my own inner beat.

I love some of these guys you are a Big Dog if your bass playing is paying all of your bills and you are living well and that excludes living in your parents basement rent free.

Great minds think alike! I am now up to 45 Beatle songs in my playlist, it is amazing how many complex subtleties Paul put into his songs- and my appreciation for Ringo's contributions has grown as I listen to how he and Paul really defined the Song.
