Hey Bush have you tried Cry Baby Cry? this song is an example of what you are talking about simple song but a really melodic bass line I love it.

I just finished Lovely Rita which has a really fun walking line to it. I think I'll work on Cry next- thanks for the tip. |

The last time I played with a dedicated band was probably about 15 years ago. I got bitten by the "bass bug" a few years ago, with an urge to play again.
I took some time to acquire some new gear & practiced a lot at home. I posted local CL ads, resulting in a few meetings/jams but nothing really materialized or clicked.
So for the time being, I'm just playing my instruments at home for my own enjoyment. My GAS urges aren't affected in the least.

| | | | I want in! I was in a few bands in college, but I don't have time for it now. Some days I wish I did, but other days I am just glad I don't have to deal with the stress and drama and can play at my own pace for relaxation and fun.

But I did spend all day alone putting this thing together...
Its an old Peavey 215 with 18s squeezed in. I got the cab for $20 and the 18s for $60. And another $20 for the hardware and gas for 3 trips to the store for different parts, I made it for $100, which is 10 less than it weighs. 110lbs of awesome.
Did I mention I broke the head in the process? |

Times have gotten bad when we incorporate gas trips in our building process.

What kept me going was doing cover on youtube but at one point I'm like ... learning something hard would be nice, like I used to do instead of playing somewhat easy music. But sometime when it takes too long I abandon.

You dont need to know much to do what I did, just cut a bigger hole, connect some wires, look up a wiring diagram on google, and righty tighty\lefty loosie for the the screws holding the speakers on. |

I also had a lot of fun learning Cry Baby Cry. Have you done "Rain" yet or "I'm only sleeping"? both are a lot of fun to play. |

I have gone through 2 books on walking bass instruction. The most challenging thing I am doing now is taking the Real Book and writing out my bass lines to songs in the book. It gives me a very hard time, and I make lots of errors which I go over with my teacher, and sometimes I have to put that down for a couple of weeks. If I get bored I won't play. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
