I just wanted to share my blog about ˘heapo guitars an basses: http://cheapoguitars.blogspot.com/
Just what is a Cheapo electric guitar? I am not talking about junky, useless, unplayable blobs that sorta look like a guitar. I am talking about junky guitars that can be coaxed into decent playability, and that cost less than $200
I also have created a facebook page.
If you are on facebeook, just "like" this page and you will get a notice any time I make an update. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref...4814185?ref=mf
Cheapo Guitars. I am not a dealer, nor do I work for any guitar company or store, I just love cheapo guitars.

I would readily buy another SX.
Though I don't go around telling others that need an SX.
I would suggest one to anybody looking for an inexpensive bass, however.
Figured it deserved a mention in a thread about cheap basses.

SO, even though had just bought a Squier VM J, I thought I could use a P-type bass, and I figured for not much more than a hundred bucks, it might be worth the risk. And as it turned out I chose rightly.
I really like this Ursa 1 P-bass. Swapping put the cheap looking white pickguard for a black one off Rondos' site, and the fact that the sunburst finish is a LOT nicer that it looks like in the pics (instead of the cheesy looking black-red-yellow you usuall get on cheap basses, this is more of a vintage black-brown gold color, very nice.) With the maple neck, it has a really nice look. And, even with the cheapass strings it came with, I knew immediately, even without a proper setup, right out of the box, it played really nice, and felt just right. And, to top it off, it sounds great to boot. It's not perfect, but the flaws are minor and do not affect the playability or sound, the bridge and tuners are cheap, but they appear to be solid stuff, and quite stable. About the only major changes I will make will be shielding it, and changing out the electronics and wiring (leaving the pickup as is) When I swapped the PG I could tell the electronics were cheap crap and wouldn't likely last long. AAMOF, they appear to be having some issues already. Everything else is good as is. All, in all after making thos few changes, I will still have spent less than $150 on a giggable P-bass clone that I think I will enjoy playing. So I guess that makes me an SX fanboy, too. C'est la vie. |

Cheap gear will teach you more, too. I can squeeze an optimal setup out in no time, solder, refinish, mod - things I`d be scared to try on an expensive bass. Recently, I bought a Squier VM P from a fellow TB`er. Love it - it plays fantastic ! My only complaint is that the pup sounds a little thin, but I plan to remedy that soon, as well as do a vintage neck refinish.
